My aims for Penryn
My general aims
☑️ To put the community at the heart of decision making.
☑️ To be a fearless representative of the issues that need to be raised.
☑️ To be readily available to the community and responsive to its needs.
My policy aims
Actually affordable homes that put the needs of the community first.
☑️ Build council houses and genuinely affordable homes for local residents
☑️ An end to second homes in Cornwall
☑️ Protect and expand the rights and conditions of renters.
☑️ Community decision making for all new housing developments.
The pandemic has made it clear, healthcare is an essential right, not a privilege.
☑️ Secure increased investment in public health for our community hospitals & Treliske.
☑️ Fight to oppose any new privatisations and reverse those which have already been implemented.
☑️ Fight for proper funding for adult social care and mental health.
The Climate Crisis is already here, we can’t afford to delay any longer.
☑️ Aim to establish a Carbon Neutral Cornwall by 2025.
☑️ Insulate homes and require all new homes to be carbon neutral.
☑️ Build new footpaths and cycleways to international standards using compulsory powers where needed.
☑️ Follow the lead of Labour’s Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and bring the buses back into local control, making them cheaper and more frequent.
Rebuild our local economy so that it is more resilient and sustainable.
☑️ No more exploitation, proper pay for proper jobs- a genuine living wage for Cornwall.
☑️ Follow the lead of Labour’s Preston Model and use council spending to support the local economy.
☑️ Reimagine our revitalise our high street.
☑️ Work with the university to maintain courses and jobs. whilst making sure students have the best experience and positive impact on the town.
A Cornwall for the people, run by the people.
☑️ Introduce a Tourism Tax and use the money raised to benefit local residents.
☑️ Introduce a Cornwall Pass for all residents giving discounts on Council beachside parking, and all CC amenities and cultural venues.
☑️ Introduce people’s assemblies to make Cornwall Council more democratic and accountable.
☑️ End vanity projects like Spaceports and invest in our schools and our future.
