POLICY

Proper levels of funding for our NHS, and adult social care. To put an end to the staff shortages and crises we have been facing.

The NHS is our most treasured national institution but the Tories and Lib Dems have pushed it to crisis-point through underfunding and organisational change that aims to Americanise our health service. We are seeing this in our local area: privatisations forced through by the Lib Dem Council and high alerts in summer and winter at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. I will do everything I can to achieve a fair funding settlement for our local NHS with ring-fenced funding for mental health care. I will resist the dangerous plans to restructure the NHS in Cornwall.

Warning of the dangers of changing the NHS structure to an Accountable Care Organisation (ACO). The plan was being pushed by the Conservatives nationally and Lib Dems locally. A strong local campaign made Cornwall Council at least slow the pace of change.

“Taking on big pharma, to reduce the cost of drugs to the NHS by billions a year, means we can fully fund the NHS. It means we can give everyone free prescriptions, which will end the choice many people in Cornwall have faced between drugs, or food.”
