Why I'm standing
For too long Westminster has completely ignored the struggles of ordinary people living here. Cornwall isn’t just beautiful beaches, countryside and people. It’s a place of great inequality. We haven’t had representation in Parliament from anyone brave enough to stand up to power and say what needs to be done. I will.
I believe that vast inequality harms us all. We should value people and our planet first and foremost. The economy should serve us. Corporations should not rule the world. Fair taxes should be paid, to provide decent public services for everyone. This is what I call common sense socialism and it works in much of Western Europe already. It can work for us here.
In Cornwall, we need an economy that works for everyone, with high-quality jobs, and security, not just dependent on tourism. We need to support small business and the self-employed. We need decent public transport that is cheap enough and reliable enough to be a viable alternative to cars. We need genuinely affordable homes that provide for people living here first, not second and third homes for the super-wealthy.
We need our precious environment to be protected. Not with warm words. With serious action, as fast as we can.
Who I am
I have always loved reading and sports. From surfing at Perranporth, cycling in Idless woods, kayaking off Loe beach, walking around Kennal Vale, or playing Capoeria in Falmouth there is so much fun to be had in our area. Now my youngest children are getting a bit older, getting back into some of these adventures is starting to happen.
In recent years, playing in the park, trying and failing badly with my (permaculture led) veggie patch and catching up on lost sleep have been my main hobbies!
I have always been the sort of person that has to speak up. Whether in the workplace, or people getting hassled in the street, I have to help. It’s just part of who I am.
How you can support me
1. Come canvassing with us
If you would like to get involved with canvassing across Truro and Falmouth everyone is welcome to join in, no experience is necessary. There are lots of canvassing events lined up across the constituency.
2. Give your time in other ways
We are a people-powered mass movement and your help is vital to our success. Could you spare some time to deliver leaflets? Or maybe you’re interested in standing as a Labour Councillor? If you’d like to help by giving your time, please complete the form at the bottom of this page. Not a fan of online forms? You can call us or email us instead if you prefer.
3. Make a donation
As well as time, we depend on lots of small donations from ordinary people rather than big corporations to help us succeed. If you would like to support us financially, you can make a donation to Truro and Falmouth CLP.
