Why I'm standing
It time for change. In the last general election, the Truro & Falmouth seat was pegged as an easy win for the Tories. But we came closer to winning than anyone ever expected. In the 2019 parliamentary election, 57% of voters in the Penryn ward voted ‘Jennifer Forbes, for Labour’ and supported our bold socialist vision. You know that we can make a real difference.
As your general election candidate in 2019, I heard the same concerns on almost every Penryn doorstep. And as a local, I’ve experienced first-hand the difficulties that living here can bring. That’s what motivates me to push Cornwall Council to build more social housing – and bring an end to our affordable housing crisis. To fight for more support for Penryn High Street and Commercial Road to help our businesses thrive. To take action on a changing climate by pushing for a Carbon Neutral Cornwall by 2025. Let’s get to County Hall and make change happen.
My aims for Penryn
Should you choose me to be your representative, I have three broad aims:
☑️ To put the community at the heart of decision making.
☑️ To be a fearless representative of the issues that need to be raised.
☑️ To be readily available to the community and responsive to its needs.
I have plans to that take on challenges across affordable housing, health and social care, the environment, the local economy and the way budgets are allocated for the benefit of residents not just in Penryn, but throughout Cornwall.
I also want to hear from you!
Putting the community at the heart of decision making and being responsive to it's needs on day one, means engaging with you now. If you can spare a few minutes I'd love to get your thoughts on the challenges that Penryn is facing.
Who I am
I have always loved reading and sports. From surfing at Perranporth, cycling in Idless woods, kayaking off Loe beach, walking around Kennal Vale, or playing Capoeria in Falmouth there is so much fun to be had in our area. Now my youngest children are getting a bit older, getting back into some of these adventures is starting to happen.
In recent years, playing in the park, trying and failing badly with my (permaculture led) veggie patch and catching up on lost sleep have been my main hobbies!
I have always been the sort of person that has to speak up. Whether in the workplace, or people getting hassled in the street, I have to help. It’s just part of who I am.
How you can support me
There are lots of ways you can get involved with my campaign to become your representative at Cornwall Council. Let’s turn Penryn red!
